We believe our children are priceless and we want to hide as many valuable treasures inside them as we possibly can. Home schooling is so much more than teaching children academics; it’s shaping a child’s character and helping them to discover the beautiful treasures that lie within. We are delighted to share the gems we have acquired over the years with as many home educators as possible.

We hope that you will participate by sharing your thoughts, ideas and questions about your home teaching experience. Together we can encourage one another to grow smart and confident children.

Let’s begin by delving into our treasure chest and discovering those gems that we want to give to our children through education and relationships. I’ve made a list and plan to discuss one “gem” every week. Please feel free to comment and add your own gems to our treasure chest.

A is for ADVENTURE! The dictionary tells us an adventure is an exciting or unusual experience that involves risk. Most children seem to be born with a sense of adventure, others need to discover it. Whether playing a new game, going to a new place or learning a new skill, we can instill a desire for adventure in our children. Remember, the things that we think are easy, or common, are quite often new to a child. The first day of camp, or acting in a skit or musical might be the biggest adventure for a young child who has never experienced it before. Don’t allow fear of the unknown to stop them from experiencing a great adventure. Instead, celebrate the journey by encouraging a sense of adventure in your child.
